Hungarian Apple Cake


Prep time: 20 mins Cook time: 25-30 mins Serves: 16-20

Ingredients: resource from hungarian style by Magdi

5 granny smith apples

1 cup flour

¾ cup sugar

3 eggs

1 tbsp baking powder

Zest of 1 lemon

Juice of 1 orange

½ cup butter, melted

1 tsp vanilla extract

1 cup walnuts coarsely chopped (optional)


Directions:

1. Set oven temperature to 350F and grease a 9x13 square pan and dust with flour or put parchment paper.

2. Peel and core apples and slice apples pieces ¼ inch thick.

3. Melt butter, whisk eggs, zest lemon and juice orange, set aside

4. Mix the dry ingredients and add the eggs, butter, orange juice, lemon zest, vanilla extract.

5. Mix thoroughly and add apple slices. Add chopped walnuts on top if using

6. Pour into the 9x13 pan and bake for 25-30 mins.

7. Let cool and sprinkle icing sugar on top.

8. Cut into squares to serve.
