Sugar Cookies: Week 3 November 2019

In celebration of the Day of the Dead, these cookies were stamped with a day of the dead cookie cutter/stamp. Any cookie cutter shape will do for any occasion.

Prep Time: 10 mins   Total Time: 20 mins   Serves: 3 dozen large cookies


1 cup butter, softened

½ cup powdered sugar

½ cup sugar

1 egg

½ tsp vanilla

2 ¼ cups all-purpose flour

½ tsp cream of tartar

½ tsp baking soda


Add butter and sugar to your mixer.  Cream the butter and sugar until it is completely mixed. Do not over-mix.

Add vanilla and egg and mix until completely incorporated.

Add Baking soda and cream of tartar 

Mix in the flour 1 cup at a time.

Do not chill the dough, the cookies will bake better if the dough is at room temperature.

Roll a handful of the dough out on a prepared surface until it's about 3/8" thick and cut out shapes with a cookie cutter.

Bake at 375 degrees for 7-9 minutes until edges are lightly browned
